Description
We are looking for one volunteer to work at the public library in Örnsköldsvik. Through the daily operations, the volunteer will meet and interact with the library guests and thus have the opportunity to contribute to the local community. The volunteer will gain insight into, and knowledge of, how a Swedish library functions. The volunteer's main task is to meet young people at the library in ‘creative business’ and via the ‘DigidelCenter’. DigidelCenter is making the possibilities of digitization more widespread and accessible to everyone with the aim of countering digital exclusion. The creative business is a new venture with focus on sustainable lifestyles and involves both digital and analogue creation. The volunteer should contribute to increased co-creation among young people and develop the library as a meeting point for young people. In consultation with young visitors, the volunteer should develop and implement activities. There will be some work on evenings and weekends.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The volunteer will be accommodated in a fully equipped studio apartment in the centre of Örnsköldsvik, near their workplace. The volunteer will have their own bedroom and bathroom. Kitchen is shared with other volunteers and students. The volunteer will get a monthly allowance for food and private expenses. Local travel is by bus or bike but most things are within walking distance.
Training during the activity
The volunteer will be given opportunity to learn Swedish through online training and in physical classes. The volunteer is expected to participate in the on-arrival and midterm seminar arranged by the Swedish NA.
Participant profile
We are looking for one volunteer who is interested in various cultural expressions such as art, craft, music. Interest in sustainability, literature, reading and/or writing is important as well as some digital skills. No previous experience is needed but the volunteer should have a passion in helping others and a willingness to learn new things, be flexible and have a positive attitude to ‘learning-by-doing’. meet a lot of people. Therefore we are looking for someone with an outgoing personality. North Sweden has cold climate in winter so it helps if you are interested in winter activities.
