Volunteering at Open Art

Örebro kommun, Ung Arena

Örebro, Suède

Description

OpenArt is a public art biennial with the next exhibition taking place June to September 2026 in the city center of Örebro, Sweden. Contemporary artworks are displayed outdoors and available for public interaction day and night. The Örebro Art Gallery is a contemporary art gallery hosting five exhibitions per year. The Public Art team is responsible for the Municipal art collection as well as the operation of over 300 public artworks in the city of Örebro. The OpenArt team works with planning and production of the exhibition, assisting participating artists in the technical production of artworks, pedagogical workshops, public program and communication in connection to the biennial. Your role will be as a production assistant, assisting the producers, technicians, communicator and artists for the 2026 exhibition. You will also work with target groups of children and young people through workshops. That will include working in daily activites at Ung Arena and the Art Department.

Modalités d'hébergement, de restauration et de transport

You will share a flat with other volunteers in Örebro, you might have to share room with someone of the same gender. The flat has 4 bedrooms, two bathrooms and a livingroom. The kitchen will be equipped with most of the kitchenware you need. Heating, electricity and wifi is provided. You will get a monthly bus ticket and/or a bicycle for local transport.

Formation pendant l’activité

Upon arrival there will be an introduction week with focus on your experience and the life in Örebro. You will get On-Arrival training and Mid-Term Evaluation arranged by the Swedish National Agency. You will also have the opportunity to attend linguistic course at SFI (Swedish for Immigrants). As a guide/host for visitors at the art exhibition you will have time to evolve your own communication skills.

Profil du participant

We will accept applicants from EU-countries, and we want you to be passionate about art. It doesn’t matter if you are formally educated or self-taught in the field of arts or crafts, but you should be able to manage tools and have knowledge in your materials and production methods. You will work together with the team and artists from all over the world with production of artworks that can vary in methods and materials. There can also be tasks regarding maintenance of the public art as well as hosting at the Art Gallery. We expect you to be able to work independently as well as communicate in what areas you need support from the team. We expect you to have some basic knowledge in microsoft office due to administrative tasks in the assisting role. It is a merit if you are an artist yourself. We want you to have a big interest in working with people because one of your tasks will be to work with children and youth to inspire them to be more interested in art. You should be interested in learning new things as well as sharing what you can with others. We want you to be able to speak English on a comfortable level since communicating with colleagues and visitors (mostly children and youth) is essential.
