Volontariato alla Scuola alternativa Im Pfeifferhof

Associazione Antigóna

Schule Pfeifferhof

Graz, Autriche

Description

The alternative Schule im Pfeifferhof is a non-profit institution initiated by parents for their children in 1993. The school works according to reform-pedagogical principles (Montessori, Piaget), which means that the work is oriented at the needs and wishes of children. The learning methods are based on “practical” work and projects, and the main principle of the school is “learning by doing”: living their own experiences, the children can both acquire cultural techniques and develop social competences. They also learn to handle rules and borders in a democratic way. You will be part of the intercultural dimension of the school, and will assist the teachers both in everyday school activities and after-school care. There is a wide range of creative educational possibilities to be explored, such as arts, sports, music, dance, theatre, games, but also talking about your country and people.

Modalités d'hébergement, de restauration et de transport

The hosting organization will provide you with a single room in a flat. To reach the school, in a quiet and pleasant place on the hills, you can use the public transport (monthly tickets are provided by the hosting organization). You’ll have breakfast and snack in school from Monday to Friday, and lunch from Monday to Thursday. Additionally, you’ll get a supplementary allowance for food, and the pocket money fixed by the European Union. The travel costs from and back to Italy will also be completely reimbursed. You’ll be covered by the insurance agreed with the European Solidarity Corps.

Formation pendant l’activité

You will attend a pre-departure training before leaving Italy, a so-called “on arrival training” a few weeks after your advent in Austria and a “midterm training” around at half of your volunteering experience. You will be provided with a German Language Course. Through the experienced school staff acting as tutor, you will receive task related support, supervision and guidance to well perform your duties during the volunteering experience and acquire competences on working with children.
