Description
We are looking for two volunteers at H1 Sliperiet, a location run by Örnsköldsviks municipality. H1 Sliperiet is a cultural centre where people of all ages can come and take part in various creative activities. One of the main target groups is people with intellectual disabilities. The volunteers will develop these activities with the aim that the target group get inspired and learn new things, also learn about Europe and their European identity. Examples on volunteering activities for the intellectual disabled: lead a class in water aerobics, teach basic English, lead a creative activity of choice in one of the culture centre workshops, take a small group out for a sport or nature excursion, or help out with various tasks in our Wednesday night ‘open house’ where the visitors are people of 15 years and above with intellectual disabilities.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The volunteers will be accommodated in two fully equipped studio apartments located in the centre of town, walking distance from their workplace. The apartments have their own private bathroom, a small kitchen area and there is a big, shared kitchen and laundry room. They will be given a monthly allowance for food and private expenses. Sometimes the volunteers may be required to drive a car provided by the organisation.
Training during the activity
The volunteers will be given opportunity to learn Swedish language through online training and in physical classes. The volunteers are expected to participate in the on-arrival and midterm seminar arranged by the Swedish NA.
Participant profile
We are looking for two volunteers who are interested in various cultural expressions such as art, craft, music, dance, theatre, film or others. It is important that the applicants have some experience and interest in working with people with intellectual disabilities. The volunteers need to be curious and have an outgoing personality. They need to have a passion in helping others and a willingness to learn new things, be flexible and have a positive mindset of ‘learning -by- doing’. The schedule will include working evenings and possibly also some weekends. Driving licence is good to have.
