Description
This project of 21 days, led by CIVS Kenya, offers volunteers a unique opportunity to contribute to community development and environmental sustainability in marginalized areas. Volunteers will engage in diverse tasks, including permaculture activities such as tree planting to enhance vegetation cover and mitigate environmental risks like soil drought and flooding. Additionally, volunteers will support agricultural initiatives aimed at improving farming practices and increasing productivity for local farmers. The project also involves capacity-building activities, such as conducting training sessions on environmental issues in schools and community venues. Volunteers can expect a dynamic daily routine involving hands-on work in the field, interaction with community members, and opportunities for personal and professional growth.Volunteers will work full-time (between 30 and 38 hours per week) and will have two days off per week.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Volunteers’ accommodation will be at the Kuth Awendo Resource Center.There will be separate female and male rooms to be shared. Three daily meals will be provided by cooks and volunteers will assist them preparing food in shifts. Typical Kenyan food includes rice, ugali, chapatti, beans, and vegetables/fruits. Meat, sadines and/or eggs are also available for those who want to eat them.Volunteers will receive an allowance of 32€ per day to cover flight tickets, Visa costs, vaccinations and other personal expenses.
Participant profile
Volunteers must have completed the mandatory online and face-to-face training organised by the European Commission, to be eligible to participate in this ESC Humanitarian Aid project. We are seeking volunteers passionate about community development and environmental sustainability. Ideal candidates possess willingness to engage in hands-on tasks such as permaculture and agricultural work. Strong communication skills and cultural sensitivity are essential for interacting effectively with local communities. Flexibility, adaptability, and positive attitude towards working in diverse and challenging environments are key attributes we look for. Volunteers should be motivated and willing to adapt to the new culture, new food and environment.
