VisEU - Volunteering, Inclusion, Solidarity, Empowerment in EU
Adamastor - Associação Cultural
Viseu, Portugal
Description
The VisEU project is a volunteering initiative within the framework of the ESC, promoted by Adamastor, that will be integrated in the local Youth Center. Its main goal is to provide young volunteers with an immersive cultural and social experience, fostering the development of transversal skills such as leadership, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving through hands-on and community-based activities. Focusing on social inclusion, solidarity, and youth empowerment, the project aims to engage participants in actions that directly benefit the local community of Viseu, contributing to social cohesion and overall well-being. Moreover, VisEU encourages cultural exchange and the creation of cooperation networks among young people from various European countries, promoting active citizenship and intercultural understanding. Through this project, volunteers have the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally, becoming agents of transformation in society.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Accommodation for volunteers is provided at the Viseu Youth Hostel, ensuring a comfortable and social environment for participants. At the beginning of each month, volunteers receive the allocated amount for food expenses, as determined by the European Solidarity Corps program. This allows them to manage their own meals throughout the month. In addition to accommodation and food, the program covers travel expenses, including round-trip transportation, enabling participants to fully focus on their roles without financial concerns
Training during the activity
During the VisEU project, volunteers receive comprehensive training to support their experience. This includes pre-departure training, where they learn about the project, local culture, and practicalities. Upon arrival, they participate in an orientation to help integrate into the community and understand their role. Throughout, volunteers receive mentoring, access to language learning, and workshops on skills such as teamwork and communication, ensuring personal and professional growth during the opportunity.
Participant profile
The ideal volunteer for the VisEU project is a motivated young person aged between 18 and 30, eager to engage in social and community-based activities. They should be open-minded, adaptable, and passionate about solidarity, inclusion, and cultural exchange. Prior volunteering experience is not required, but the volunteer should have a willingness to learn, develop transversal skills (such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving), and contribute positively to the community. A strong interest in personal development, gaining new experiences, and becoming an active agent of change is essential. Additionally, the volunteer should be flexible, empathetic, and ready to work in a diverse, multicultural environment, collaborating with people from different backgrounds. An interest in local culture and European solidarity is a plus.
