Description
The volunteer will work within the Red Cross program Social Support for Refugees, which offers weekly social activities in Reykjavík and Reykjanesbær, including a Women’s Group, Youth Club, Open House, and language training. The program aims to reduce social isolation and create opportunities to meet, connect, and learn about Icelandic society. A key element is volunteer-led Wellbeing Groups, designed to improve mental wellbeing through activities such as yoga, meditation, art therapy, drama, and dance. Activities vary based on volunteers’ skills. The ESC volunteer will support and liaise with local volunteers, assist with registrations, and help build a sense of community. They will also contribute to designing flyers and social media content and preparing monthly schedules. Experience with Canva or similar tools is an advantage. Modalités d'hébergement, de restauration et de transport
The volunteer will live in a house near the centre of Reykjavik with up to 7 other volunteers. Each volunteer has a private bedroom, kitchen, living room and bathroom is shared. A food allowance will be given as well as a bus pass for the whole year and Icelandic courses. Formation pendant l’activité
The volunteer is obliged to attend on-arrival training and midterm evaluation in Iceland and get informed on end-of-term evaluation meetings in the sending country. The volunteer will receive some language training whilst in Iceland. Ongoing support and training will be provided by the Icelandic Red Cross and personal support will be given by the volunteer’s mentor as well as the coordinating organisation AUS.
Profil du participant
Be 24 yrs old min. Social, interested in getting to know people, organized, able to perform well under pressure, able to work independently and take initiative. Good team worker. Good communication skills, open-minded and willing to listen and show empathy. Able to take initiative. Ready to commit to the fundamental principles and code of conduct of the IFRC. Have excellent English language skills. Other languages, especially Spanish, Arabic, Ukrainian or Russian are a strong advantage. Have basic computer skills. Have proficiency in use of Canva or other design skills. Have a strong interest in the field of migration and previous experience working with volunteers.
