URGENT TEAMS CALL: IN MEDIA RESC: Organic farming for social inclusion with Argo
UNITED SOCIETIES OF BALKANS
ARGO RECOVERY COOPERATIVE
Σταυρούπολη, Θεσσαλονίκη, Greece
Description
Volunteer will support Argo and its organic farming project, promoting the social reintegration of people who faced addiction. Argo is a Recovery cooperative working for the social reintegration of ex drug and alcohol addicted people, with the organic famring activity in its green space being an integral part of this process. Volunteers work from Monday-Friday, for a maximum of 30 hours per week, in early morning hours due to the temperature. Thus, volunteer should be prepared for a project which also demands "physical" volunteering activity in the green space. Team will also organise joint online and offline campaigns to address a crucial European priority. This group will address the priority “Boosting Environmental Protection” and support eco-related initiatives, in beaches and other areas in need in the broader Thessaloniki region, as well as support the Green Wave Festival in September 2025.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Volunteers are going to be accommodated in a fully equipped building located in the city centre (Anagnostara, 13) near the main bus station of the city. It is an autonomous 5 floored building of 150 m2 per floor and a terrace on the 6th floor. There are two living rooms and a big kitchen, showers in the common floors and toilets in every floor. Volunteer from our other projects also stay in the house. Each volunteer will share their room with one or three more people. Food is provided through catering service, Monday-Friday. City bus transport card can also be provided to volunteers.
Training during the activity
Task-related training.
Participant profile
Volunteers will have to be 18-30 years old and be genuinely interest in the project. Main aspect during selection will be their motivation to join and contribute in the activities. At least a basic English language level is required, for volunteers to have at least one communication language to be used in the field or in case of need or emergency. Volunteers need to be motivated about this topic. In addition, some experience with similar target groups (mental health patients, drug addicts, etc) will be a pro. Having a background or knowledge in agriculture would be a valuable asset, but not a pre-requisite. Volunteers need to also be ready to engage in some more “physical” tasks as part of the activities, as they would have to work in an organic farm. The project is part of ESC frame, and volunteers should be aware of the 12 month limit regarding their eligibility.
