Description

During this activity, volunteers will offer support and empowerment services to Unaccompanied Minors and will complement and flourish the services already offered to them by the staff of the Shelter for Unaccompanied minors run by KEAN in Larisa. UAMs are embraced by our scientific staff such as psychologists, educators, etc. and they participate in a series of educational, entertainment and empowerment activities for their personal and social development. KEAN also aims to protect and empower the UAMs, to safeguard their fundamental rights and to promote their smooth inclusion into the local society. The activity will offer you the opportunity to support a particularly vulnerable social group, to contribute to their social inclusion and empowerment, to identify and overcome their own stereotypes and xenophobic perceptions but also to sensitize other people by contributing to the creation of communities of equality and to the melioration of these children’s lives.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

KEAN is responsible for fully covering the cost of your accommodation. Volunteers will stay in a shared fully equipped apartment in the center of the city of Larisa which meets the required standards of hygiene and safety and has all the necessary equipment (home appliances, furniture, heating, household appliances, sheets, blankets etc.), it provides easy access to the public transportation and has access to the Internet, in order to promote and facilitate the communication of the volunteers with both their families and our organization.

Training during the activity

You will hold meetings with the KEAN staff and your supervisor for monitoring the implemented interventions and you will get all the needed training on activity’s ethical, no harm codes and on sensitive issues when working with vulnerable people and guidance for the completion of activities including (depending on your interests and skills) such as music, theatrical, cultural and educational workshops, exhibitions, events and excursions. The final aim of all the activities is to empower both the beneficiaries and the volunteers and to create a social impact in local and European society.

Participant profile

Participants will need to be Greek citizen, 18-30 years old. Moreover, they will need to have: - good grasp of English and Greek Language -interest in the topics of environmental protection and social challenges -desire to engage in group activities to tackle environmental and social challenges Young people with fewer opportunities (individuals with disabilities, LGBTQI etc.) are strongly encouraged to apply for this activity.
