CoCreating EcoCommunity Spaces – ESC Long-Term Volunteering Edition

THE CROSSROADS - ΤΟ ΣΤΑΥΡΟΔΡΟΜΙ

MEGALOPOLI ARKADIAS, Greece

Description

“CoCreating EcoCommunity Spaces – ESC Long-Term Volunteering Edition” invites two young volunteers to join The Crossroads eco-community in Megalopoli, Greece. Together we continue transforming our Urban Villa and newly developed eco-village land into sustainable, self-sufficient, inclusive and creative living spaces. Volunteers will learn and contribute through practical activities in permaculture gardening, natural building, eco-construction, upcycling and community cooking in our new outdoor kitchen. They will also experience community living, sociocracy and non-violent communication as tools for collaboration and self-development. The project offers hands-on learning, cultural exchange and the chance to co-create real examples of ecological and social transition in rural Greece, especially for post-coal regions like Megalooli that undergo a Green Transition. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Volunteers will be hosted in The Crossroads Urban Villa, an urban eco-community in the town of Megalopoli. They will stay in shared or private rooms depending on availability, with access to a common kitchen, bathrooms, garden and communal living spaces. Meals are vegetarian, prepared together using local and garden products. Heating is by wood stove and solar panels provide warm water. Activities take place both at the Villa and on the nearby eco-village land. Megalopoli is easily reached by bus from Athens and local transport for project needs is organized by the hosting team.

Training during the activity

Volunteers will receive ongoing learning and mentoring in permaculture, natural building, upcycling and sustainable community living. They will join weekly reflection and learning circles using tools of sociocracy and non-violent communication. Practical workshops on gardening, eco-construction and food preservation will be combined with guidance on teamwork, project planning and intercultural learning.

Participant profile

We are looking for two motivated young people (18–30 years old) who wish to experience and contribute to community life, sustainability and hands-on ecological work. No previous experience is required, only curiosity, openness and a willingness to learn by doing. Ideal volunteers enjoy teamwork, outdoor activities and creative expression. They are ready to adapt to simple living conditions, share responsibilities and participate actively in the rhythm of the community. An interest in topics such as permaculture, natural building, gardening, cooking, renewable energy, upcycling, or social communication is welcome. The project also values personal growth and community awareness, so volunteers should be open to practising tools like sociocracy, non-violent communication and collective decision-making. The Crossroads welcomes people from diverse backgrounds and encourages applications from those who wish to explore a more sustainable, inclusive and mindful way of living closer to nature while contributing to the Green Transition of Megalopolis and its local community.
