The power of together

Volunteer at a German High School (Start as soon as possible)

Jugendwerk der AWO Wuerttemberg e.V.

Gymnasium Salvatorkolleg

Bad Wurzach, Germany

Description

Salvatorkolleg High School helps its students grow into responsible, understanding, and open-minded individuals. Since 2009, volunteers have enriched school life, fostering intercultural exchange and supporting connections between German students and international guests. As an ESC volunteer, you will live in rural Germany and work at the school together with another volunteer. You can get a behind the scence look of a German highschool where you can be involved in non-formal and formal activities, such as workshops in art, music, language, and culture, physical education, supporting administrative tasks, or helping in the school library. Salvatorkolleg is open to new ideas and supports volunteers in implementing them. Although the school is in a rural area, you will have networking opportunities with other ESC volunteers from the coordinating organization. This is your chance to share your culture, take responsibility, and experience the German countryside from a new perspective.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The two ESC volunteers share a flat in Bad Wurzach, in walking distance of the school. They receive money to buy their own food. The volunteers receive a “Deutschland Ticket” which can be used on local and regional public transport across Germany. Please be aware that Bad Wurzach is a rural town. There are no bus connections to other bigger towns between midnight and 5 a.m.

Training during the activity

The volunteers will take part in the arrival and midterm Seminar of the German National agency. A German course depending on the level of the volunteer can also be arranged. If you are interested, you can also be part of trainings to become a youth leader at the coordinating organisation.

Participant profile

We are looking for volunteers who are open to living in a small village and experiencing rural Germany. You will be warmly welcomed by the school community and supported by an amazing coordinator. Teamwork is essential, as you will work closely with another volunteer and with students and teachers of the school. A basic knowledge of German (A2) is helpful. We value creativity and initiative: new ideas and projects are encouraged, and you will have support to bring them to life. If you are motivated, flexible, and eager to make an impact, this is the perfect opportunity to grow personally while contributing to an intercultural school environment.
