Description
Volunteers will be involved in a range of activities in Habitat ReStore Dublin depending on the skills and interest of the volunteer and specific needs of the organisation during the placement. Activities include retail operations such as customer service, supporting with the collecting of donations, presentation and displaying of stock, sorting and pricing of donations and admin support within the ReStores. There is an opportunity to be involved in helping with training and support for volunteers with a learning disability or mental health challenges. You should note that the work in ReStore and is hands-on and can be physically demanding. There may also be an opportunity to engage in Habitat's broader work during the placement, this could include activities such painting on Habitat's House to Home programme and assisting with the school's work or helping raise awareness.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The volunteers will live in shared accommodation in Dublin. Each volunteer will have their own bedroom, and cooking, living and bathroom facilities will be shared. Volunteers will purchase food and cook own meals - expenses will cover food costs. Volunteers will walk to the placement or if required use public transport and expenses will cover bus/train journeys to the placement. Exact details will be confirmed closer to the time.
Training during the activity
Volunteers will receive induction training on arrival - this will include an orientation to the local area, as well as to ReStore. This training will include ' Understanding Habitat', Health and Safety, Customer Service, and general volunteer information. Depending on the volunteer role, additional training will be provided specific to the tasks to be done by the volunteer. There will be ongoing training and development with the volunteer throughout the placement. If specific training needs are identified, additional training will be arranged.
Participant profile
We are looking for volunteers with good level of English, and keen to work as part of a team. Our volunteers must be flexible, willing to learn as well as being good at using their initiative. Volunteers must enjoy working with people of all ages, gender, backgrounds and abilities. The role is for a minimum of 6 months but there is flexibility to extend this to up to 1 year.
