Volunteering in Plunges municipality public library

Rietavo savivaldybės jaunimo organizacija "Progresas"

Plungės rajono savivaldybės viešoji biblioteka

Plungė, Lituanie

Description

We are a cozy library in the small city of Plungė in Lithuania. In 2012, Plungė Public Library began a new life when it moved to a reconstructed small castle with a clock tower and former orangery. The library building is a state-protected cultural heritage site and part of Duke Mykolas Oginskis estate. This ducal ensemble is very important and significant in a cultural, social, and natural sense for the city and country. The library has taken on a new color and form and become an outstanding and unusual space with unique cultural participation options for both locals and tourists. This purposefully chosen location in a sense breaks library concept norms and challenges the library as a source of information while completely transforming the institution’s image. Modalités d'hébergement, de restauration et de transport

The living place will be in the Plunge in the guest house or apartment. In the living place, volunteers will live in private separate rooms but have to share with others volunteers the bathroom, fully equipped kitchen, and dining room. A project will cover costs like accommodation, food, travel, and living expenses of the volunteer. Volunteers are insured by Henner. The volunteer is going to be paid pocket and food money each month to buy necessary things.

Formation pendant l’activité

Before coming volunteers will have the pre-departure session in this country and when come to Lithuania will have an on-arrival and mid-term training. Training will be about volunteering experience and Youthpass certificate. In Hosting organization volunteers can learn about Lithuanian culture and traditions, know how to organize and implement activities for kids and young people, have a clearer idea of what they want to do in the future, and realize volunteer in different activities.

Profil du participant

We are ready to host curious, active, and motivated volunteers able to work either in a team or individually. The library is visited by many different people, including foreign tourists, therefore volunteers are expected to be communicative, able to adapt to different situations, and have good skills in spoken and written English. Other languages would be an advantage. Candidates seeking to volunteer in the library should have an interest in its environment (books, cultural heritage, nature, etc.) and gather some information about the place they are arriving at. Volunteers should understand that the environment, where they are going to volunteer, might differ greatly from what they are used to and they should be ready to take things in a flexible manner, be curious, proactive, and willing to learn.
