Walk through the history of Madeira
Jugendwerk der AWO Wuerttemberg e.V.
Associação Académica da Universidade da Madeira
Funchal, Portugal
Description
A Walk through the History of Madeira is a project that aims to showcase the culture and history of Madeira through guided tours and other cultural activities, such as exhibitions and oncerts. Volunteers also play a key role in supporting university spaces—shops, cafés, and restaurants at Jesuits’ College and the University Campus—that host initiatives for students and young people from local communities. WHAT'S THE POINT? By performing the guided tours and helping in the maintenance of different projects, volunteers assume an important role in promoting social support programmes developed by the University of Madeira Students' Union (AAUMa), which enable various endeavours such as the refurbishment of the University of Madeira, providing school supplies and daily meals to less fortunate students, supporting young local athletes, or acquiring scientific publications for the University of Madeira library.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The volunteer will be accommodated in shared rooms in one of the various students' residences in Funchal, where they will live alongside other young volunteers and university students. Their rooms will include a shared closet, bathroom, desk, chair, and bookcase, as well as free Internet access. Within a 5-10 minutes walk from most residences, volunteers will find supermarkets, bakeries, pharmacies, post offices, medical clinics, restaurants, and leisure spots. And best of all, the sea is always nearby!
