Description
Are you interested in agroecology and forest work? Are you available for 4 months between August and November 2026? We are a agroecological cooperative farm running a seed bank and managing over 20ha of land near Igualada, Catalunya (Spain). We have a big vegetable garden, fruit trees, several composting systems, a large pine forest, a small herd of Jersey cows who graze perennial fields, 100 roaming chickens sleeping in mobile chicken coups. This role covers a variety of tasks to help with improving the land management farm and the seed bank: - Traditional seed saving of local varieties and keeping our seedbank up to date maintaining traditional varieties (in collaboration with Eixarcolant). - Enhance Forest Health and Biodiversity: forest work, tree and shrub planting, creating spaces for silvopasture, living hedges and swales to increase water retention... - Aiding in imparting Enviornmental Workshops and community-learning events.
Modalités d'hébergement, de restauration et de transport
Accommodation: your own space on the farm to sleep on the bottom floor Access to a shared kitchen and bathroom. Food basics are supplied (such as bulk rice, pasta, vegetables, etc.) Volunteers recieve monthly pocket money to spend in their free time. Ecomercaderet is located 4km from the nearest town (Igualada) which is about a hour walk away or a 20 minute cycle away (we have several bikes volunteers can use). If you have your own vehicle, you are welcome to bring it.
Formation pendant l’activité
All field-work at Ecomercaderet will have in-house training. Language classes start in September in the nearby Civic Centres in Igualada; interested volunteers can sign up to learn Spanish or Catalan
