Climate change advisor in Ghana

NGO MONDO

GHANA DEVELOPING COMMUNITIES ASSOCIATION LBG

TAMALE, Ghana

Description

Mondo Estonia is sending a volunteer to Northern Ghana, where communities face persistent poverty and heavy dependence on rain-fed agriculture. Climate change is worsening these challenges through erratic rainfall, drought, rising temperatures, and flooding, with serious effects on farming, water security, livelihoods, and employment. Rural communities therefore need both immediate adaptation measures and long-term resilience-building strategies. The volunteer will support key activities including conducting climate vulnerability assessments, identifying practical intervention options, building local capacity in energy saving, reduce-reuse-repair-recycle practices, food management, income diversification, and sustainable farming using organic inputs, as well as strengthening networking and stakeholder engagement in climate action.

Modalités d'hébergement, de restauration et de transport

GDCA will provide comfortable accommodation near the office. The accommodation has essential utilities such as water, electricity, internet, and satellite TV, as well as basic kitchen facilities for preparing meals. Participants may also choose to buy meals from nearby restaurants or food vendors, though it is advisable to use reputable vendors. For official duties, GDCA will provide transport. Local taxis and tricycles are also readily available.

Formation pendant l’activité

As part of the BRIDGE Project (Building Resilience, Innovation, Development, and Gender Equality), volunteers will work toward empowering vulnerable communities, especially women. Training includes skills development workshops, digital literacy enhancement, participation in UN Women Summits, and facilitating digital training sessions. Volunteers will gain hands-on experience in capacity building, stakeholder engagement, and social impact-driven project execution while refining leadership and communication skills.

Profil du participant

A suitable participant for the Climate Change Advisor role in Ghana should be adaptable, proactive, and committed to community-based climate action. They should have knowledge of climate change, sustainable agriculture, environmental management, or related fields, and be able to support practical resilience-building activities at community level. Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills are important, as the role involves working closely with local communities and partners. Experience in climate adaptation, livelihoods, training, or project support will be an added advantage. Above all, the participant should be culturally sensitive, resourceful, and motivated to contribute to long-term, locally driven solutions.
