Jugendbildungsstätte Kaubstraße is a non-profit youth education centre in Berlin. We create participatory learning spaces where young people explore democracy in practice, reflect on power relations and develop skills for social responsibility. Our work includes seminars and workshops on discrimination awareness, civic participation, climate justice and media literacy, as well as trainings for youth leaders and educators.
The volunteer will support the administrative and organisational work that ensures the daily functioning of the centre. Tasks include assisting with seminar preparation, communication, documentation, data management and basic financial processes. The volunteer will gain insight into how a publicly funded educational organisation operates. The working language is mainly German.
Please be aware that the tasks are primarily administrative and organisational (approx. 80–90%) and include only a small proportion of educational or pedagogical activities.
Alojamiento, manutención y transporte
Volunteers receive accommodation in a shared flat, a monthly food allowance and pocket money according to ESC standards. Local public transport costs are covered. Travel costs to and from the project are reimbursed based on ESC distance rules.
Formación durante la actividad
Volunteers receive on-arrival and mid-term ESC trainings, regular mentoring and supervision. Internal guidance includes introduction to administrative processes, funding structures and project management. Language support is provided if needed.
Perfil del participante
Jugendbildungsstätte Kaubstraße expects the volunteer to have a good command of German (at least B2, better C1) and English (B2), as German is the main working language. The volunteer should be interested in administrative and organisational work within a non-formal education setting and motivated to learn about the structure and functioning of a non-profit educational institution.
They should be able to work independently, take responsibility for assigned tasks, and demonstrate reliability, attention to detail and a structured way of working. At the same time, the ability to work in a team and communicate clearly with different departments is essential.
We value openness to participatory working methods and a willingness to contribute own ideas. An interest in political education topics such as discrimination awareness, social justice and democratic participation is expected. Basic knowledge of Office programs (e.g. Word, Excel, email tools) is required, as well as a willingness to engage with financial and administrative processes such as budgeting, documentation and reporting.
The volunteer should also be open to intercultural exchange and working in an international team, and be willing to reflect on their own learning process and actively participate in mentoring sessions.
The volunteer supports the management team and administrative staff in the daily operational work of the educational centre in the fields of administration, organisational tasks and coordination as well as event organisation and logistics.
Please be aware that the tasks are primarily administrative and organisational (approx. 80–90%) and include only a small proportion of educational or pedagogical activities. The focus of this placement is on learning and supporting the structural and administrative backbone of a non-formal education institution.
