Connect & Belong – Volunteering at an Inclusive Youth House in Hungary

Salva Vita Alapítvány

BUDAPEST, Hungary

Description

The volunteer will primarily support a Youth House for young people with disabilities and additional support needs. Tasks include planning and facilitating group activities, informal conversations, peer support and building relationships with young people. Group sessions usually take place on Mondays and Thursdays, while other days focus on individual interactions and smaller activities. The volunteer may provide practical assistance during Youth House activities, including travelling together to programmes or helping on site, but no personal assistance outside Youth House-related activities is expected. The volunteer will join our local team, working closely with staff and young people, but will be the only international volunteer. Depending on organisational needs, tasks may also include supporting other Salva Vita Foundation projects and activities, such as events, communication, administration and practical duties.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Accommodation will be provided in Budapest for the entire volunteering period. The exact accommodation arrangements will be discussed and agreed upon with the selected volunteer, taking into account individual needs. Food support, pocket money and travel costs will be covered in accordance with European Solidarity Corps (ESC) rules. Local transport required for volunteering activities will also be provided or reimbursed according to ESC regulations.

Training during the activity

The volunteer will participate in on-arrival training organised within the ESC programme. In addition, Salva Vita Foundation will provide non-formal training and ongoing guidance on inclusive youth work, the Youth House approach, and working with young people with disabilities and additional support needs. The volunteer will learn through practical activities, observation, teamwork and regular feedback from experienced staff.

Participant profile

We are looking for a motivated, open-minded, patient and responsible volunteer with good English communication skills. Knowledge of Hungarian is a strong advantage. Previous experience working with young people with disabilities or additional support needs is an advantage, as is experience in peer support, youth camps or youth work. Applicants studying in related fields are also welcome.

We encourage applications from young people with fewer opportunities. Willingness to learn, empathy and an interest in inclusive youth work are essential.

Important: In addition to applying through the European Youth Portal, please complete our Google application form, which includes additional questions to help us assess your application. Both steps are required for your application to be considered.
