Kingsriver is a LIFE-SHARING Community supporting adults with disabilities. It provides residential & day support in the form of training, therapy & meaningful work. Kingsriver advocates for inclusion and the breaking down of barriers & stereotypes around people with special needs. We are committed to provide quality person-centered opportunities for people of various abilities & to support them to realize their full potential. Our target group learn to participate in their community through a variety of programmes & activities. Volunteers support & enhance those activities & help our target group to become more independent & better included in society. This happens through our weekly programmes, dialogue, teamwork & activities such as art & crafts, sport, gardening, woodwork, cooking. I.T skills, etc. Tolerance, acceptance & empathy to people being different are the main features volunteers encounter. They learn a lot of practical & organizational skills AND a lot about themselves.

Alojamiento, manutención y transporte

This is a LIFE-SHARING Community therefore volunteers LIVE AND WORK in the same place. Accommodation is in one of the residential houses in Kingsriver Community. Volunteers have their own bedroom and share a bathroom. Our meals are shared, that means we all eat together in the main house; and we take turns cooking for everyone. Volunteers can do what they want and eat where they want on their days off. We are located in the countryside and have our own mini bus that travels to Kilkenny City every day (approx 15mins). Formación durante la actividad

Volunteers are encouraged to use their YouthPass as reflection tool throughout their Project to support and develop their skills. Training opportunities include: Volunteer Guide to Practical Tips; Residents & Community Info; Manual Handling; Management of Actual and Potential Aggression; Code of Conduct; Privacy & Confidentiality; Health & Safety; Infection Control; Fire Safety & Evacuation Procedures; Epilepsy; Safeguarding & Adult Protection; Disability; etc. These are supported by practical skills learned by doing and through shadowing professional staff; supervision & mentoring meetings

Perfil del participante

While we do not look for formal qualifications, we find that our Project is suited to flexible people who have a good sense of humour & strong motivation. We prioritize candidates with a good level of English as we provide formal training where volunteers need to read, learn & understand our work's policies & procedures. This is necessary to comply with Irish law for people who work with vulnerable individuals. It is important that candidates have an interest in working in disability & are available for ONE year. We also prioritize applicants of 22 years of age & older as we work with adults
