Solideers:Solidarity Actions, Empowered Volunteers

ARSIS Association for the Social Support of Youth

Thessaloniki, Greece

This activity is closed, you cannot apply.

Activity description

The project addresses equality and non-discrimination challenges that have been intensified in the area of Thessaloniki, by organizing volunteering activities for the integration and social assistance of vulnerable groups. It mainly focuses on children and third-country nationals, responding in the refugee crisis that it still affects Europe and leads thousands of people deprived of their human rights and opportunities for their personal development and welfare. The volunteering activities of the programme will revolve around three axes: a) recreational and educational activities with children and adults b) integration and social assistance and welfare activities c) communication and awareness raising activities.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The program covers the travel cost to and from Thessaloniki at the beginning and at the end of your ESC, the transportation in the city, the accommodation, the daily meals, and Greek language courses. You will be given pocket money at the beginning of each month for your daily expenses. You will be covered by the private insurance CIGNA for the during your project and after (for two more months). Cigna works as a supplementary insurance from the EU Health Card and the registration to the insurance is made by the Sending organisation.

Training during the activity

The volunteering programme includes training seminars (individual and group) in order to ensure the volunteers’ preparedness and response to all challenges ahead. The trainings they will receive will allow them: - To improve their foreign language skills, as they will work with people from different nationalities, ARSIS’ staff and other volunteers - To enhance their independence skills, as they will live on their own and rely on themselves, being responsible. - To enrich their knowledge on the field they work (seminar on asylum processes, human rights).

Participant profile

ARSIS is looking for motivated young people, willing to work and offer their experience and ideas to the organization and the greater community. It would be of great interest to the latter to involve people that share the EU's values on democracy, freedom, non-discrimination, as well as ARSIS' beliefs on social inclusion, youth protection and equal treatment of all individuals. It is of great importance to note that no gender discrimination of any kind and any form has placed within this framework, and participants of both genders may be chosen in order to ensure gender equality.
