The Organic Centre

Rossinver, Ireland

La date limite de candidature est passée.

Description de l’activité

The project aims to promote local growing and sustainable living amongst European citizens. The project will develop online resources that will encourage and inform all aspiring growers about how to grow organic vegetables at home all year round. The project addresses the threats of climate change to European society. It will advocate ways that Europeans can live more sustainability and reappreciate the fragility of the environment and the impact of climate change on our food sovereignty. Online resources in the form of website content, videos, podcasts and digital newsletters will help to educate, mobilise and empower European citizens into making more responsible decisions facilitating greater harmony with the natural world around them. Volunteers will greatly complement the advocacy component of The Organic Centre's work, allowing us to reach out to more of the public through more accessible digital means.

Modalités d'hébergement, de restauration et de transport

Volunteers will enjoy a fully furnished house with scenic views overlooking the local countryside shared with other volunteers. This accommodation will have full cooking facilities for volunteers to prepare and make their own food some of which will come from The Organic Centre's own gardens. There are food shops within cycling distance (bicycles provided) of The Organic Centre and the nearest town is well served by a bus service which brings you to two large towns. Sligo and Enniskillen are the nearest big towns where bus and train connections can be made to many parts of Ireland.

Formation pendant l’activité

While creating a new online interactive hub volunteers will develop an array of media and digital skills such as creating and editing videos and images, newsletters, podcasts and managing website. Horticultural skills will also be gleaned as they continue to document a year of growing. Volunteers will be able to exploit the rich resources available at The Organic Centre as well as the particularly knowledgeable staff to improve their knowledge of organic growing, biodiversity and sustainability It is hoped volunteers will mobilise the public by engaging them in online advocacy campaigns.
