Beschreibung der Tätigkeit

Our mission in the Shianda village of Western Kenya is to offer quality help to students and empower women in the area. Together with our local partner organisation Western Focus Community Organisation (WEFOCO) we set up different projects on education, livelihood, women empowerment and healthcare (HIV/AIDS is still an issue). Thanks to WEFOCO and Mondo more than 100 children and 600 women are benefitting through different welfare projects on education, livelihood and women empowerment. The position will include working in rural settings and focusing on the community awareness raising regarding family planning, general diseases, disabilities and nutrition. The volunteers will also work at the local clinic to train the community health workers and local nurses and will provide workshops and capacity building activities for nurses and clinicians in order to increase their technical abilities and soft skills.

Beitrag zu Unterbringung, Verpflegung und Reisekosten

The volunteer will live in Shianda village, Western Kenya. During work, the main mode of transportation will be motorbikes or walking shorter distances. The host organisation will provide the volunteers’ safety and locked accommodation in the volunteers’ houses/apartments. They can have access to a kitchen and shower with all useful necessities: a water closet, tap, gas cooker, dishes, and Wi-Fi. Vo The volunteer will be given a monthly living and transportation allowance. The volunteer will receive a monthly allowance of 390 euros to cover basic needs and local transport.

Fortbildung im Rahmen der Tätigkeit

The volunteer will have the opportunity to get deep knowledge about nurses, midwives and local clinics work in rural Kenya. The training includes working in a local context and integrating with different communities. The volunteer can participate in local language courses. Volunteering will build new contacts and partnerships.

Teilnehmerprofil

Degree and experience as a nurse or midwife. Capacity to facilitate trainings and workshops for health colleagues thanks to group facilitation skills. Fluent in English. Autonomy, flexibility and adaptation. Expected results: development and implementation of structured procedures on hygiene standards for nurses and clinicians in Shianda; improvement of their attention towards patients, growth of disease prevention and family planning in the local communities; evaluation of the previously conducted health trainings in the community.
