Udruga Biom
description de l'organisation
Association BIOM is one of the leading nature conservation NGOs in Croatia, focussing on the protection of wild birds and their habitats. Since its establishment in 2006, BIOM has carried out numerous European and Croatian grant funded nature conservation projects on Croatian territory and accrued the support of over 400 paying members.
Association BIOM’s main objectives are as follows:
- Protection of nature by focus on species and habitats.
- Promoting public awareness about the importance of biodiversity and the threats which it faces.
- Promoting sustainability of development and the use of natural resources.
BIOM’s international importance in the field of nature conservation was recognised in both 2011 and 2013 when it became a
partner of the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) and BirdLife International respectively – a standard which
it continues to uphold with the support of the international community.
BIOM works with the general public, partner NGOs, Government bodies, and a wide range of other groups – such as
stakeholders affected by projects – to advocate the adoption of higher standards regarding nature conservation. A significant
aspect of BIOM’s work is to raise awareness of and educate the general public about nature conservation and the value of
biodiversity. The target groups of BIOM’s activities are all people of all backgrounds. BIOM regularly holds local volunteering
activities such as litter picking events, citizen science projects, activities open to international volunteers such as habitat
restoration and ornithological volunteer camps in Učka Nature Park, and public engagement events such as guided
birdwatching days and school educational visits.
