Description of organisation
Sylvia-koti yhdistys is a non-profit association offering social services for people with special needs in five different units including the Sylvia-koti special school in Lahti region southern Finland. The other units are: Tapola Community, Myllylähde Community, Kaupunkikylä and Rautakannas-koti. All the units of the association are members of the international Camphill movement. The aim of the Camphill communities is to offer opportunities for people with learning disabilities, mental health problems and other special needs to live, learn and work with others in an atmosphere of mutual care and respect. In the different communities we offer a range of accommodation styles from little flats to community homes to suit individual needs of people with special needs. We focus on supporting and enabling people through community life. Our target groups are children, young adults, adults and senior citizen with special needs. Along with accommodation services we offer diverse activities in different workshops like farming, gardening, working with food, weaving, household and many-sided craft and artistic workshops.
