Norges speiderforbund (NSF) was founded in 1978 by the merging of Norsk Speiderguttforbund (founded in 1910) og Norsk Speiderpikeforbund (founded 1921). Today NSF has close to 20 000 members.
NSF is organised into local scout troops and there is approximately 450 scout troops throughout the country.
NSF aims to develop its members to become independent and responsible citizens trhough outdoor life, community involvement, international understanding and personal experience of the ideals in scouting.
The educational programme is divided into four age levels:
Beavers (age 6-8), Cubs/brownies (age 8-10), Scouts/guides (age 10-16), Rovers (age 16-24). Our members do programme activities in patrols and gain skills and practical knowledge according to their age level. This way, they experience a steadu progress in theri påersonal development. Guides and Scouts spend much time in the outdoors all year round.
NSF is member of the World Guide and Socut Organization so the international aspect is also important in scouting. Many scout troops go abroad on camps and participate in world wide activities. I.e. is 850 scouts from Norway attending a World Camp in Japan this Summer, and there will be participants from more than 140 countries.
