Beskrivelse av organisasjon

Geysir Clubhouse is a place where people who have had or have mental illness or challenges attend to rebuild their lives. The participants are called members, not patients and the focus is on their strengths not their illness or fragility. Work in the Clubhouse, whether it is clerical, data input, meal preparation or reaching out to their fellow members, provides the core recovery process. Every opportunity provided is the result of the efforts of the members and small staff, who work side by side, in a unique partnership. For many members the most important steps members take toward greater independence is transitional employment, where they work in the community at real jobs. Members also receive help in securing housing, advancing their education obtaining good psychiatric and medical care and maintaining government benefits. Membership is for life so members have all the time they need to secure their recovery and new life in the community.
Everybody at the Clubhouse has mutual responsibility for the operation of the house. The Clubhouse is based on a work-ordered day. All the work is done for the Clubhouse and Clubhouse Community. Members and staff divide tasks between themselves and decide together what tasks need to be carried out. Activities in the Clubhouse are divided into units; Kitchen and maintenance unit, Office, employment and education unit.
The Clubhouse invites every one who has been struggling, or is struggling with mental challenges to take part in a constructive work, based on peer support where the goal is to increase social involvement for better quality of life. In general the aim of the Clubhouse is to offer people with mental disabilities a safe place to be, diverse activities, build up self confidence by focusing on the individual´s strength, interest and ability, support in education and searching for employment and offering temporary employment opportunities.
