Beskrivelse av organisasjon

Movement for decent work and welfare society is a non-governmental organization, which is an active member of Slovenian civil society. The movement unites people with a critical point of view on contemporary Slovenian labor politics who are ready not only to criticize the failures of such politics but also to provide constructive suggestions that might help to change or improve them. Movement for Decent Work and Welfare Society was founded in 2010 in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, as an organization that would act primarily in the areas of the labor market and welfare state, and society. In more than a decade of existence, the organization has managed to organize many round tables and workshops, which were aimed to help people to deal with unemployment in Slovenia, as well as several public campaigns dedicated to labor issues and precarity. One of the more publicly known campaigns was campaign against small work ("malo delo") - our NGO was one of the leading organizations who successfully managed to refuse the small work law on the national referendum. The organization informs the general public about labor rights, as well as follows the personal stories of precarious workers. Movement closely collaborates with Slovenian scholars and experts on the respective matters. Moreover, the members of the Movement prepare written contributions, in which they discuss the modern labor problems, which Slovenian workers face, comment on the decisions of the government, and amendments to legislation. These contributions are published on the Movement’s website and Facebook page. Apart from it, the members of the Movement are constantly educating themselves about labor legislation and other legal matters related to the labor market, as well as about the sociological, historical, psychological, and other theories of precarious work in order to determine its specific problems and articulate solutions to them. Also we provide legal consultations to precarious workers and we help to improve their personal situation. Our goal is to reduce precarious work and to erase the structural reasons why precarious work exists. Our main group are precarious workers, for example: self employed who don't employ others and are usually dependant on one client (customer), student workers and civil contract workers. Precarious work was not invented in Slovenia, it was part of a much more broad picture of deregulation of labour market in the west countries in the 70s and 80s. So it is improtant that we connect organizations from all around the world to fight against global phenomenon. That is why our Movement wants to meet organizations and volunteers from all over the world. And we have already hosted two international trainings and 9 international volunteers.
