Description of organisation

AFS Latvija Intercultural Programs represents the association AFS Intercultural Programs (www.afs.org), which is a public, international, non-profit voluntary organization and promotes intercultural contacts through exchange programs for students, professionals and families around the world. Our mission is to provide intercultural learning opportunities to help people develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to create a more just and peaceful world. Through our international exchange programs, education initiatives and volunteerism we empower young people from all backgrounds with essential global skills and the passion for making a difference. AFS has been operating an exchange programms since 1947, but in Latvia the since 1990 and during these years we have created a large knowledge base of intercultural understanding. In order to deliver the organisations mission our main activity is the provision of exchange programs for secondary school students and with nonformal education methodes to deliver the basic knowledge of intercultural understanding to different social groups - students, sending families, teachers the schools, hostfamilies, volunteers and other interests like NGOs, foundations etc...
We are active in cooperation with schools, youth centers, NGOs with different targets - inclusion, politicaly oriented, foundations, educational organizations and institusions, and any comunity who is intersted in intercultural learning and understanding.

  • This organisation holds a European Solidarity Corps Quality Label. The Quality Label certifies that the organisation is able to run projects in compliance with the principles and objectives of the European Solidarity Corps.
