Diakone is a non-government organization which provide and help people in need, specially with social needs. Diakonie respects the human dignity ant takes cares of different ethnicity groups , children, women and minority . Diakonie had different projects as Consulting for return and reintegration ,Diakonie Training Center,Psycho Social Center for Traumatherapy, Refugee project , Farm, Diakonie Youth Center,Kindergarden ,German language center .
The projects where the volunteers will be involved in Diakonie Kosova (DiaKos) are: The multi-ethnic Diakonie Youth Center, Kindergarten.

- Diakonie Youth Center (DYC) has 5 years (from 2013) of experience in implementing such projects in the field of multi-ethnic youth work. We have mainly started with projects that have to do with reconciliation work (between Kosovo Albanians, Kosovo Serbs, Roma and Ashkali) involving the young people in the age of 14 until 21 years old in decision-making, awareness-raising and skill development in art, culture and sport. DYC is located in Mitrovica, Kosovo (next to the Main Bridge on river Ibar, which divides the city on North and South).
Mitrovica is a divided city, in the south live the Kosova Albanians, while in the north mostly Serbs. The two districts are connected through 3 bridges, and the main bridge was blocked for several years. Between the abovementioned ethnic groups large tensions are present. But, the situation in Mitrovica is safe but certain introduction and precautionary measures must be taken. This means that hosted volunteers will be informed in time regularly about the everyday situation in Mitrovica.
We understand reconciliation as a spin-off of our open door youth work (low level access) and all our activities.
From 2016 with proposals from the youth forum (DYC youth board – decision-making body) by analyzing the needs of young people, especially of those who finish the high school and have the right to work, we updated the concept of Diakonie Youth Center. The new concept has the aim to provide to the young people trainings on modern professions such as: Camera training, Web-Design, DeeJay, Make-Up, Nail Course etc. in a way that they earn the skills that will help them to find a job. According to Kosovo Statistics Agency, the unemployment rate in country is 61.2%, and in that, 57.3% are youngsters of age 15 to 24 years old. For that since 2016 DYC offers young people trainings and courses for capacity building, raising awareness, as well as developing various skills in the field of art, music and sports.
Young people can come every day to participate in our regular activities: table football, table tennis, board games, cards, youth advising, studying and reading in our well-equipped library, free access to the internet and also participate in language courses such as English, Albanian and Serbian. We also have supportive girls and boys groups to help them in advices and in their everyday lif
- “Kindergarten” is a project under the umbrella of Diakonie Training Center. This project has started in
March of 2015 with the purpose to offer quality education for children of Mitrovica, one of the poorest regions
in Kosovo.

Kindergarten is a licensed educational institute that accepts children from 9 months to 6 years old.
Our Philosophy of education is based on three important columns:
- Social learning - to learn to help each other.
- Environment classes – to teach children to respect the nature and environment.
- German classes
Also we are supporters and followers of Montessori methodology and for this our team is trained from German trainers to practice this methodology in our kindergarten. As an institution, we respect the dignity and the rights of people and is opened for all of the ethnicities that live in Mitrovica. We are supporting social cases and integrating children with special needs
The structure of Diakonie is multi-ethnical, within the staff and the youth forum. Although we come from different backgrounds and have different interests, we provide the same opportunities for all.
