Description of organisation
Natur og Ungdom (NU/Nature and Youth/ Young Friends of the Earth Norway) is a Norwegian youth environment protecting organisation. It is the only youth organisation of its kind in Norway, and has over 7000 members throughout the whole country, divided on more than 70 local groups. The organisation has an age-limit from 13- 25 years. Officially, you could say that NU is the youth branch of the «Norwegian Society for the Conservation of Nature”, but the organisation is a totally separate, autonomous and democratically led organisation. The organisation was founded in 1967.The main issues the organisation works with include petroleum and energy, public transport, climate, nature conservation and fishery and agriculture. The organisation also has its own Russia department, where two employees run the organisation cooperation with its Russian partners.As prior mentioned, the organisation is a democratically run NGO, and could be characterised as a grassroots organisation, run from bottom to top. The organisations' mantra is “think globally, act locally”. The organisation arrange campaigns, demonstrations and address the media to try to rise the public opinion against cases like dumping of mining waste in fjords, building of natural gas power plants, or as small cases as fixing cheaper and better public transportation locally
- This organisation is accredited to run projects under Erasmus+ Volunteering and the European Solidarity Corps.
- This organisation holds a European Solidarity Corps Quality Label. The Quality Label certifies that the organisation is able to run projects in compliance with the principles and objectives of the European Solidarity Corps.
