Österreichische Kinderfreunde is one of the biggest family organisations in Austria and has been working with children since 1908. It was originally founded for children of the working class, to improve their lives by creating activities in their leasure time. Today, the Kinderfreunde does unsalaried work in the form of youth centres and mobile social-cultural projects, aswell as summer camps, daytime-activities during the school holidays and daycare for school children. Besides that we are doing political lobby work for children and youngsters based on the UN conventions on the rights of the child. Main aims of our work are children's rights, participation and equality of age, gender and race.
KECK
The project “KECK” itself started first in 1992 and represents the only mobile animation and free time activity programme for children and teenagers in Salzburg. It is run the whole year through and is concentrated on the city quarter of Itzling and since 2008 also on the city quarter of Elisabethvorstadt. Main aims of our work are children’s rights, participation and equality of age, gender and race. Main part of the regional work in Salzburg are daytime-activities during the school holidays, mobile social-cultural project work with playbusses on public areas and on playing fields, sports projects for youth connected with integrational activities with refugee children and media-work. Another very important part is networking, so we collaborate with other organisations and institutions working in our field to provide activities for children and their families from those areas.
Project “Parkbetreuung–Stadtteilkompetenzteam”
The project Parkbetreuung (which means leisure time activities on playgrounds and public areas) started about 40 years ago. Too many kids in Salzburg could not afford, or where not allowed to come to places where leisure time activities were offered – so – from then on leisure time activities come there were the kids are. The program is open, mainly for kids between 5 and 15, but also teens, adults and older are welcome. Kids can come and go and most important: always have the right to participate to influence the program.
