Description de l'organisation

Entreculturas is a Jesuit-sponsored NGO that encourages equal access to education as a tool for driving forward social change, promoting justice and fostering cross-cultural understanding.

We support education projects among disadvantaged populations in Latin America, Africa and Asia. Our aim is for education to be available for as many people as possible, but we also strive for better educational quality and to support education as a tool for social transformation.

Our cooperation for development work seeks to leverage education as a way to improve the living conditions of vulnerable communities. A quality education is the best way to build a better future. A quality education promotes emotional development, boosts self-esteem and, above all, provides the tools and skills people need to escape the spiral of inequality by adapting to society and joining the workforce.

We work together with other organizations who play an important role in those regions where we have a presence (Africa, Asia, and Latin America), developing close partnerships with networks including Fe y Alegría and the Jesuit Refugee Service. Both are internationally renowned for their hard work, experience and commitment to the communities they work with.

We carry out education, communication and research campaigns in order to raise awareness in Spain about the role that education for all plays as a central transformative element to drive forward a nation’s development. We also carry out public advocacy campaigns in an attempt to influence governments to enter into international commitments in favor of a fairer world.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights as well as multiple international agreements state that education is a human right. However, this right is not implemented everywhere nor have countries developed the right in the same way. The Agenda for Sustainable Development was approved in September 2015 and, as a result, the Millennium Development Goals evolved into the Sustainable Development Goals –17 goals and 169 targets to end poverty, inequality and protect the planet over the next 15 years.

At Entreculturas, we firmly believe education is the most powerful tool against inequality. Education is a human right that simultaneously protects dignity and justice while allowing access to other basic rights.

We are committed to promoting quality education based on different values (solidarity, empathy, protection of the environment, equality, etc.) and is taught by trained, motivated and paid teachers.

We are a national network that promotes social change and we have 28 delegations in 13 Autonomous Communities, made up of teams that work towards the promotion of justice. Entreculturas is committed to the dignity of individuals and to justice, which is why we work for the most impoverished people and communities. The entire Entreculturas team is engaged in the vision, mission and values of the organization.

Currently, a total of 90 employees and 656 volunteers and collaborators work daily to transform education into the key to development. At the local level, in the current moment Entreculturas have 477 people who voluntarily participate in the organization (163 men and 314 women). 44 of them participate in the head office (18 men and 26 women) and 433 (145 men and 288 women) in our deputations. We offer volunteer in our head office and in some of our deputations:

We have ended the year with a total of 20,000 members and donors. This has made it possible for us to maintain our commitment to our projects in both the North and South.

The management of Entreculturas is subject to external auditing in order to ensure the smooth running and maximum transparency of our daily operations.

The annual accounts for the year 2017 were audited by BDO Auditores, S.L.P. The resulting auditing report gave positive feedback as regards all the aspects looked at, which means that our accounting faithfully reflects the assets and financial situation of Entreculturas. The accounting and auditing reports can be reviewed by anyone interested at the Entreculturas Head Office.

We have also been granted the stamp of “Accredited NGO” by the Fundación Lealtad, a non-profit organisation which assesses non-governmental organisations based on transparency in their use of resources and good practices in management. The full report can be found at www.fundacionlealtad.org/ong/entreculturas

Furthermore, Entreculturas has obtained the “Reviewed NGDO” stamp after successfully meeting the requirements set out in the “Transparency and Good Governance Tool” from the Spanish NGDO Coordinator. All the information can be found at www.webtransparencia.coordinadoraongd.org
