Description of organisation

EL RENAIXER, COOPERATIVA VALENCIANA (hereinafter EL RENAÍXER) is a non-profit Associated Labour Cooperative created in 1984 whose mission is to improve the quality of life of People with Intellectual Functional Diversity and their families. The Cooperative runs the Occupational Centre EL RENAÍXER (hereinafter C.O. EL RENAÍXER) and is located at the same location.
The C.O. EL RENAÍXER is a resource that provide a comprehensive care for people with Intellectual Functional Diversity. The users of the Centre are between 18 and 65 years old, all of them with some degree of Intellectual Functional Diversity.

Intellectual Functional Diversity is characterised by significant limitations in intellectual functioning and adaptive behaviour, expressed in adaptive behavioural, social and practical skills. Along with intellectual functional diversity, emotional or mental disorders can appear.
People with Intellectual Functional Diversity have limitations in intellectual functioning, such as in reasoning, problem solving, planning, abstract thinking, decision making, academic learning and learning through experience. They also have deficits in adaptive functioning that result in non-achievement of social and cultural standards for personal independence and social responsibility. Without the consequent support, adaptive deficits limit functioning in one or more activities of daily living, such as communication, social participation, and independent living in multiple settings such as home, work, and the community.

The purpose of the C.O. EL RENAÍXER is to provide support to achieve the maximum development of the users attended in order to improve their Quality of Life.
The Occupational Centre offers comprehensive care to People with Intellectual Functional Diversity based on three axes:
• Therapy and job training: aimed at training and improving the job skills of the people attended for the sake of a possible integration into the normalised or protected labour market.
• Personal development: working on self-concept and self-affirmation, improving people's levels of autonomy and self-determination, influencing their physical and emotional well-being.
• Social development: we promote the social inclusion of People with Intellectual Functional Diversity and the fight of their rights and obligations as citizens of the community in which they reside.

The people cared for need different degrees of support: intermittent, limited or extensive, which can vary for each person depending on the areas. To carry out our work, the Centre follows an integrative model (humanistic, inclusive and people-centred), based on the formation of groups of users with different levels of support that are then divided into the various workshops.

These supports are provided through different programs:
• Workshop on job skills.
• Workshop on activities of daily living: shopping, help with the dining room and kitchen service, personal hygiene, money management, etc…
• Sports workshops: futsal, petanque, birlas, hiking, swimming.
• Social skills workshop.
• Workshop on cognitive stimulation.
• Playful-creative workshops: cooking, theatre, dance, ICTs, crafts, board games, etc…
• Leisure-cultural outings: at least once a month there is an outing to community spaces for cultural purposes (museums, exhibitions, etc...) and / or recreational (parks, natural sites, etc...).

The human resources of the Centre are: director, psychologist, physiotherapist, occupational monitors and occupational assistant. It also has cleaning staff and external catering. Internship students and volunteers also collaborate within the Centre.

  • This organisation holds a European Solidarity Corps Quality Label. The Quality Label certifies that the organisation is able to run projects in compliance with the principles and objectives of the European Solidarity Corps.
