The Institute for new media is a non-profit training company with beneficial status, dedicated to promote media education and media culture. The Institute consists of two departments: the professional training department (media college rostock) and a department for media education and media culture of young people (media workshop). The media workshop offers, like music schools and schools of arts, supportive educational programs for regional schools. The media workshop has 10 employees (media teachers, management staff and technicians) and up to 15 freelance co-operators (lecturers, trainers). In workshops and courses, the Institute wants to introduce young people to new media and encourage them to produce their own messages in digital and audio-visual media. The majority of our participants are young people up to 20 something of age. In addition to this the media workshop is organizing regional and national media competitions and film festivals. The main event is the annual FiSH - film festival in the city harbour of Rostock with a national and an european short movie competition for young film talents up to 26 of age. Every year, the FiSH festival is not only prepared and organised by the staff of the media workshop, but also shaped and designed by a team of young volunteers, pupils, trainees, students and young film talents. The festival cooperates with numerous partner festivals and film workshops in our northern European region around the Baltic Sea.
