The Leipziger Dok-Filmwochen GmbH (limited company) was founded in 1991 with the statutory purpose of continuing DOK Leipzig, the International Festival for Documentary and Animated Film, after the fall of the Berlin Wall. The non-profit making company is a 100% owned subsidiary of the City of Leipzig. DOK Leipzig is the second-largest documentary festival in Europe and important meeting place of the international non-fiction industry. During the festival week in October/November about 350 films from around 60 countries and approx. 79 events are presented to an audience of more than 50,000 in 37 venues. The festival and Industry events attract about 1,800 accredited professionals who take advantage of the network to circulate their finished films, finance (co-)productions and participate in business-to-business and knowledge exchange. The festival employs a yearly staff of 14 people (part and full-time) and is recognized as a centre of competence internationally.
