BG Be Active (BGBA) is a national organisation that works for the creation and promotion of an active Bulgarian civil society. Our activities are centered around 2 major programmes - NowWeMOVE and Spot programmes. The organisation started its activities back in 2011 in Plovdiv with the mission to promote physical activity for health and benefits of regular exercise and recreational activities. In 2013 BGBA became the national coordinator for the NowWeMOVE (NWM) campaign. Up to 2022 BGBA has coordinated over a thousand events supported by more than 640 move agents and has ‘moved’ 2 million people across more than 200 locations. In 2017 BGBA launched the first national placemaking project aimed at redesigning and improving the conditions of public spaces across urban areas, making them better suited for sports activities, urban sport, and physical exercise. Today, Spot Bulgaria is a long-term program of the organization with the goal of improving the urban environment while promoting active citizenship. Based on the placemaking approach, the program activities create stable and long-lasting partnerships between citizens, organizations, businesses and institutions through which the care for the public environment is transformed into a stimulus for civic engagement and responsibility. Through the program, BGBA has contributed to 37 improved locations, 230 successful partnerships, 230,000 kg collected waste from nature, 2,600 involved volunteers and 110 events #WithoutWaste.
