The Habitat Jeunes Laval association, established for more than 60 years in Laval, offers accommodation solutions to young people aged 16 to 30 years old as part of their geographical, social and professional mobility.
The association manages three establishments with around one hundred units spread over the city of Laval: a residence located in the city centre, at the heart of the local dynamic (shops, transport, cinema, theatre, etc.), a residence located near the university campus and close to the SNCF train station, and a residence located close to a business park.
Approximately 500 young people are accommodated each year in these three establishments. These young people come from France, Europe and various continents.
The association has strong values of social mixing and diversity, and the professional situations of the young people accommodated are very diverse: apprentices, workers, job seekers, students and young professionals make up the population accommodated in the three residences.
The socio-educational teams of the three residences support the young people in their life projects from a social and professional point of view. Two types of support are offered simultaneously:
- Individual support enabling each person to implement their professional project (help with administrative procedures, job or work placement searches, referral to local partners (employment, health, citizenship, etc.).
- Collective support aimed at promoting social links, meetings and exchanges. The support offered is based on the contribution of each young person to the life of the group, each one having his or her own experiences which are considered enriching to share with their peers. The teams support the young people in projects carried out collectively within the residences (setting up a place of conviviality, organising holidays or outings, humanitarian projects, etc. ).
Throughout the year, the teams offer the young people activities such as
- Convivial: thematic meals (organised by young people who want to share and discover their culture, games evenings, musical evenings, etc.)
- Sports: introductions to new sports, regular group sports sessions (the City of Laval lends a gym), fitness sessions, etc.
- In connection with health prevention (addictions, healthy living, etc.) and road safety.
- Citizenship: debates, civic life (voting rights, etc.), voluntary work and humanitarian commitment, etc.
- In connection with administrative procedures: taxes, opening of rights, etc.
In addition, the residences offer a number of ancillary services enabling each young person to gradually experience life in autonomy: catering service, loan of equipment, solidarity fund, Internet access, laundry service, etc.
