Ayuntamineto de Santa Cruz de La Palma is the local public entity of the municipality of Santa Cruz de La Palma, capital of the island of La Palma, a non-capital island of the Outermost Region of the EU, Canary Islands, Spain. It has a population of 17,000 inhabitants. Over time, it has been configured as one of the most beautiful urban centers of the Canary Islands; not in vain, in 1975, it was declared a historical-artistic site. Alongside these monumental values, the palm capital treasures a remarkable past, dotted with landmarks that transcend island borders and are embodied in general history. In addition, at present, this Atlantic city exhibits a superb intangible heritage, manifested through a suggestive festive calendar.
As a local public entity, we are the entity in charge of the management of various public services aimed at providing our citizens with resources in the different areas of life, ensuring their well-being and their development in equal opportunities, within our competences as a local public entity.
The welcome of volunteers is raised from the Department of Neighborhood Movement, since the objectives we propose are:
- Promote citizen participation.
- Facilitate community participation through neighborhood associations.
- promote the development of activities that benefit the community, especially young people.
- Promote the development of inclusive values and participatory and active citizenship.
By integrating volunteers in this department, they could opt for the development of tasks in cooperation with other councils, such as culture, youth, sports, market, etc. Since many of the activities of community participation require this cooperation.
In previous years we had experience in hosting volunteers, and we believe that it is a program in which both the participants, the organizations and the local community benefit in terms of learning and experiences.
The cultural exchange, of points of view, of experiences, allows to enrich the development of the community and the proposal of new ways of acting and participating, which allow a better development of the community, more European and inclusive.
