Döşemealtı is a municipality since 1977 and district governorate in Antalya, Turkey. Antalya is one of the 30 metropolitan centers in Turkey with more than 6 municipalitıes within city borders. Döşemealtı Municipality is one of the 5 second-level WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? municipalities in addition to Antalya Büyükşehir (metropolitan city) Municipality. It is responsible for delivering welfare, comfort, health care, education, recreation, technology, industrial and economic development and green environment to its nearly 60.000 HERE ARE TWO NUMBERS WHICH ONE IS CORRECT? inhabitants. Döşemealtı is located in the north of Antalya, 20km away from the city center.
According to 2015 figures the population of Döşemealtı is 55462. The name of the city refers to the ancient road around the town (In Turkish Döşeme means "pavement" Döşemealtı is a recent settlement. The earlisest residents were from Korkuteli (Burdur Province) in 1934. Later people from Cyprus and Yörüks (nomadic Turkmens) also settled in Döşemealtı.

Although a huge amount of economy is based on tourism in Antalya since it is situated on the Mediterrenean coast and popular for its natural beauties and historical places. Döşemealtı still relies on other economic activities such as farming, agriculture and weaving. That affects the socioeconomic status and incomes of the local people which are quite low. Therefore, Döşemealtı Municipality gives priority to conduct projects regarding education, health care and environment.
