The role of the Europe Direct is to provide information about the European Union to the general public. They are generally set up in busy thoroughfares. The Europe Direct offices (EDIC) are available to citizens, young people, elderly, teachers or families that are looking for general information and to professionals who need to know about specific EU documents and affairs. The EDICs are organised in such a way as to give a first level reply to any request for information on the European Union, to assist the public in their research and direct people, if necessary, to more appropriate sources. By the EDICs you can find a broad range of documentation on European institutions and policies.
Europe Direct – Comune di Trieste http://europedirect.comune.trieste.it/ is part of the Communications Office of the Municipality of Trieste together with the Youth Information Centre and the Public Relations Office. The office – inaugurated in 1999 - manages and organizes several activities at local and international level with a special focus on transnational mobility of youth. In 2004 the office joined the Eurodesk Italy network http://www.eurodesk.it/ and since 2009 it acts as the National Relay for the European Day Of Languages http://edl.ecml.at/
Eurodesk is the network acknowledged by the European Commission to provide information services to young people and those who work with them on European opportunities in the education, training and youth fields, and the involvement of young people in European activities. Eurodesk also contributes to the animation of the European Youth Portal.

Il ruolo degli Europe Direct è quello di fornire informazioni generali sull'Unione europea al grande pubblico. Gli uffici Europe Direct (EDIC) solitamente si trovano in luoghi di grande passaggio e sono disponibili per cittadini, giovani, anziani, insegnanti, famiglie e professionisti alla ricerca di informazioni generali o documenti specifici dell'UE. Gli EDIC danno risposte di primo livello sull'UE e assistono il pubblico nelle ricerche, indirizzandolo, se necessario, alle fonti più appropriate. Presso gli EDIC è possibile trovare una vasta gamma di pubblicazioni sulle istituzioni e sulle tematiche europee.
Europe Direct – Comune di Trieste http://europedirect.comune.trieste.it/ fa parte dell'Ufficio Comunicazione del Comune di Trieste insieme all'Informagiovani e all'Ufficio Relazioni con il Pubblico. L'ufficio, fondato nel 1999, gestisce ed organizza diverse attività a livello locale ed internazionale con una particolare attenzione alla mobilità transnazionale educativa dei giovani. Nel 2004 l'ufficio si è unito alla rete Eurodesk Italy http://www.eurodesk.it/ e dal 2009 agisce come relais nazionale della Giornata Europea delle Lingue http://edl.ecml.at/.
Eurodesk è la rete riconosciuta dalla Commissione europea che fornisce ai giovani e agli operatori informazioni sulle opportunità europee di istruzione, formazione e mobilità.
Eurodesk contribuisce anche alla gestione del Portale Europeo dei Giovani.
