Comunità Nuova is a no- profit association working in the field of youth promotion and education to overcome difficult backgrounds. It is headed by don Gino Rigoldi, priest of the penal institution for minors “Cesare Beccaria” in Milan.
It was born in 1973 from the initiative of a volunteers group linked to the penal institution. In 40 years it has maintained the characteristics of concreteness, secularity and independence from governments, parties or religious institutions.
Comunità nuova develops social activities in the following areas:
-Youth Education, through the activity of the Youth Centers, “street” education; after school laboratories and projects to prevent early school drop-out; educational interventions in schools
- Sport and wellness, through the cooperation with sport organizations and projects promoting wellness, socialization and the prevention and fight of doping.
- Children and families reception; throught the management of hosting communities for children and teenagers; social interventions to improve life conditions of children and thier families; attendance for the custody and legal support; family mediation; training to educational relationship.
- Addiction recovery, through projects of addiction reception, care and support for addicts; preventing measures in schools and local contexts.
- Social inclusion and migrants: social secretary; temporary housing; legal consulting and orienting; “Street” activities, reception of social outcasts, minors and young foreigners at daytime; interventions in the penal field, for minors and adults.
In the European field, our organization has currently three active projects, all of them focused on young people: Me and You (against gender violence), Breaking the Circle (legality and minors), Traditional Sport Games 4 For You (gathering of traditional game for educational purpose). We also support the project “Intercampus” and the project “Io tifo positive in Romania”. In this latter case we coordinate a local team.
For our events and activities we regularly welcome volunteers, and we have been hosting EVS and ESC volunteers since 2017. ESC volunteers will carry their activities mainly in our Youth Cebter, working with young people between the age of 11 and 21, coming from the suburbs of Milan. Some of them have difficult a background due to their families or economic/cultural context. Our staff is made of a coordinator and various trainers with a long experience in the field of education and social work.Each one has specific skills and many have experience in European projects and international volunteering, too.
