The Adapted Motor Activity Association (A.A.M.A) is a national non-profit association that supports people with disabilities and other special needs in the sports, therapeutic, artistic, recreational, educational and training spheres. In April 2013 we were granted the status of IPSS (Private Institution of Social Solidarity).
A.A.M.A. was created in 2008, starting its activity with an adapted swimming program in the Municipal Swimming Pool of Rego, and since then, it has created more and more spaces and programs for the sporting practice of children and young people with disabilities and other special needs, namely paralysis cerebral, cognitive deficiency, motor impairment, visual impairment, autism spectrum disorder, and chronic congenital diseases. Physical activity not only promotes movement, dexterity and behavior learning, but also promotes the autonomy, mobility and well-being of people with disabilities and other special needs.
The main objectives of the AAMA are:
a) to promote the teaching of different motor activities adapted for people with disabilities and / or other special needs;
b) organize holiday camps, recreational, artistic and sporting events for people with disabilities;
c) organize training courses for technicians and parents, within the scope of adapted motor activity;
d) publish manuals;
e) collaborate with competent social security, health, local authorities, autonomous regions and other public or private entities;
f) establish contacts with international organizations and collaborate with entities from other countries for analogical purposes. In order to carry out its duties, the Association can stimulate ways of raising financial resources, particularly among public and private entities, national and foreign;
g) integrate children with special educational needs into the Lisbon social network.
AAMA seeks to develop programs of current interventions such as: adapted swimming, psychomotricity, early intensive intervention program, holiday camps and adapted karate to support the populations with disabilities and other special needs as well as their families.
AAMA aims to enable empowerment and individual capacity to promote greater equality of opportunity. Altruism for the dignification of persons and families with disabilities and / or other special needs.
The quality policy of AAMA is to ensure a specialized intervention adapted to the special needs of each person, a team of highly qualified and experienced technicians to guarantee the success of each intervention, continuously monitor and maintain the technical quality standards of each intervention , ensuring good international practice, standards and recommendations.
