The volunteers working for this project in the Ländliche Erwachsenenbildung in Niedersachsen e.V. (in English: Rural Adult Education in Lower Saxony, LEB for short) will live in Göttingen and work in nearby FriedlandGarten and in the Göttingen office.
In FriedlandGarten, immigrants and inhabitants are brought together by common gardening. Everyone can participate here, no matter what age and what Nationality, whether native citizen or resident of the border transit camp Friedland. On the large garden grounds we sow, work and harvest together - and last but not least celebrate together. The FriedlandGarten is not only a place of common creation, but also a meeting place, a place of learning and a space for intercultural understanding. In particular, it wants to promote the coexistence of the inhabitants of Friedland and the refugees, the temporary residents of the border transit camp Friedland. The management and harvesting of the communal beds, fruit bushes and trees follows a principle of solidarity: those who garden or otherwise contribute - even if only for a short time - can reap the ripe fruits and at the same time ensure the harvest of the following crops. The tasks of the volunteers typically belong to these three areas of responsibility:
1. Project support in dealing and networking with migrants and residents, motivating them to overcome the inhibition threshold for establishing contact
2. Support in the planning and organization of information events, workshops etc. on the topics of migration, nature conservation and the environment
3. Network with local institutions in the area of FriedlandGarten and the border transit camp Friedland.
Through their work at the LEB, volunteers gain insight into project management and implementation at an educational institution as well as a first introduction to the educational work. Thanks to the openness of the LEB, volunteers are also happy to be creative in the further development of existing projects or in the organization of new project ideas. Our projects are based on an intercultural exchange, in which the volunteers can contribute a further perspective. In the concrete project, the intercultural exchange is linked with the topic of climate protection.
Volunteers will be provided with a mentor and a tutor to assist them at work and privately.
The entire team would like to implement possible ESC projects in the sense of the program manual. All employees can communicate fluently in a foreign language. In addition, as socially working and thinking people, we have an intercultural sensitive approach. There is a large network in Lower Saxony beyond that of the LEB, for example in working groups or with other volunteers. The volunteer is professionally accompanied by competent social workers.
The Ländliche Erwachsenenbildung in Niedersachsen e.V. (in English: Rural Adult Education in Lower Saxony, LEB for short) is accredited according to the Lower Saxony Adult Education Act. From here, the LEB divides into nine regions and a headquarter in Hanover, covering the entire state of Lower Saxony.
With more than 50 member associations and organizations, among them 36 voluntary cooperative district working groups with more than 2,000 groups and associations, the LEB is responsible for and coordinates the largest education network in Lower Saxony.
The educational work of the LEB in Lower Saxony refers to
- Promoting cultural life in the communities
- Integration of disadvantaged groups (young people, prisoners)
- Refugee work
- Vocational education and training
- Managing structural change in the economy, society and rural areas
- Sustainability
For three years, the focus of work within the LEB has been on integration counseling for migrants from 25 different countries and, since 2015, the social work for refugees who have come to Lower Saxony. In this work area also the ESC project is to be settled.
