description of organisation

"El Remós" supports adults with an intellectual or mental disability in a rural and mountain area in the Spanish Pyrenees. "El Remós" is part of the association Guayente, which aims to improve educational, social and cultural development of the Ribagorza area in Huesca in the province of
Huesca in the Spanish Pyrenees. To improve the quality of life in their environment, Guayente created "El Remós" in 1994 at that time the lack of training opportunities and inclusion of disabled people was presented as one of the main problems of the region. In these 24 years of experience our organization has grown and increased its social presence.
The centre is divided in different parts.
• The occupational centre in Benasque, where 14 people with disabilities work during the day because they are not able to work in a normal working environment. Apart from occupational activities, we work on rehabilitation, socio-cultural activities, sport and music workshops, handicraft and environmental activities. Our most famous product is our artisan soap with donkey milk!
• The special employment centre in Sesue is directed to people with a disability but with the possibility to work. In the centre 5 people with disabilities dedicate their time to construction, maintenance, gardening and cleaning jobs and are being guided during their work.
• The residence in Sesue, where 14 people with disabilities live together. The residence offers them housing and integration in the surrounding society. During the evenings and at weekends the residence offer them leisure time activities.
