Kontakt mellem Mennesker/Contact between People is a volunteer social association, NGO. We turn 30 years in 2019 and our vision is a strong, visible and diverse civil society, where all citizens can contribute through volunteering; where they can also seek help and support and take part in meaningful communities of interest.

We work to realize our vision through the following areas of effort:

1. Volunteer center (one of Denmark's 68 volunteer centers) with several functions: a) counseling and guidance on the volunteer jobs open in our local society, b) we are knowledgeable about the municipality's volunteer social associations and function as a guide to anyone who needs help from an association, c) we offer support and sparring to the volunteer social associations through consultation and courses; also facilities and office space available, d) we make volunteer social work visible e) we establish networks in many directions with participants from the volunteer social area as well as the municipal. The target groups for this effort are: people who wish to become involved in volunteer work, people seeking help from an association - the socially marginalized as well as associations and the municipality, f) we run a large volunteer house where about 70 of the city's volunteer social associations, networks and groups can use our facilities at no charge.
2. Self-help groups. We continually organize self-help groups with volunteer initiators. Topics for these groups are defined by the needs of the participants - such as: stress, sorrow, divorce, low self-worth or close contact to an addict. The target group for this effort is people who wish help to self-help to get through or to tackle a difficult life situation.
3. Anonymous counseling. We offer anonymous counseling with volunteer counselors. Here can anyone who needs it come and receive sparring about where help is available in the local society - both Kontakt mellem Mennesker's own offers and other offers within the local volunteer social area. The target group for this effort is people seeking help to self-help.
4. Communities of interest projects. We continually organize projects where focus is on establishing communities. Here and now we have an international women's café with 13 different nationalities participating, a walk-&-talk project with several weekly walks, a men's café, Christmas Eve celebration for 100 persons with volunteer helpers and also distribution of Christmas aid. The target group for these community projects are people who wish more network and contacts in their life.
5. Charity shop. We run a charity shop with 30 steady volunteers. The shop's purpose is both to generate profits that help fund our efforts - but also as a spacious and tolerant workplace for volunteers who want to be part of a recycling community.

Our home is the Municipality of Svendborg - the most hyggelig (nice & cozy) city in Denmark. Here is an abundance of creativity, music, nature and acceptance. We are housed in a beautiful old hospital, where we loan space and facilities to the volunteer social associations. We house several cafés and many active users of our services - also marginalized residents - come here. The Erasmus volunteers will have office space in our secretariat. Here we are informal and put great emphasis on a positive tone - hygge.
