The association was founded in 1953 under the name Vörös Meteor. In 1967 the Kecskeméti Spartacus Sportkör became the successor of Vörös Meteor. For a long time the sport club dealt with a wide range of sports, for example weightlifting, in which, among others, Messzi István, the olympic silver medalist trained here. But nowadays, for 22 years now, the club only deals with table tennis. Since its foundation the women’s and the men’s section have been working side by side and getting outstanding results both on national and international levels, which is very unique. In 2018 we took part in national and international competitions with several adult teams, and this year, 2 of our male teams took part in the NB III national competition and one of the won it. Our female team competes in the Women’s Extra League (the highest league in the country), in which they meet highly prepared opponents, and play matches from which they can learn a lot. From July 2018 the table tennis section of the Univer-Sport Kft. joined us, so the two teams merged. Thanks to the fusion, the staff of Spartacus grew, and now we are able to have trainings in more places too, which allows more space to the sports to grow. Our other goal is to help children gain knowledge at an early age about the importance of regular sport and healthy lifestyle. To make this happen we regularly oganise lifestyle-guidance days and leisure time programs as well as we are an active participant in the sportlife of Kecskemét. To maintain our teams we place forward the training of the new generation. We cooperate with the nearby elementary schools to help secure the next generation table tennis players. We also offer free opportunities for students for other free time sport activites, and help the work of the Table Tennis Association of Kecskemét. We organize together the Table Tennis Championship of Kecskemét, where 20 teams play against each other. The Kecskeméti Spartacus Sportkör és Közösségi Tér is a non-profit association, which welcomes everyone regardless to age, gender, social or financial background. Our target audience is the youth, specifically the underprivileged. We realised the need for a place where the underprivileged youth and their families can participate in cultural, sport and other social programs for free, so we operate as a community park too, and organise programs for them too. Primarily we aim the youth living in Kecskemét’s residential area, where discrimination often happens in the schools, with verbal and non-verbal abuse, and by trying harmful addictions. With our programs we offer these youths an option to spend their free times in a great team with sports and games in a great community instead of bad company, drugs or alcohol. To sum up, our main goal is to create a safe place where people regardless of age, gender, social or financial background can spend their times with great company. An open space where they can find friendships, goals, they can learn how to be confident and how to trust themselves and how to make their dreams happen. To achieve this we offer cultural, social and sportprograms where the youth can play and be together. At our community they can learn that everyone is equal and important and that together we are even stronger and can achieve anything.
