Ungdomshøjskolen ved Ribe - The Youth Folk High School at Ribe - and from here on noted as UHR -is a traditional Danish folk high school, where young people between 16 and 19 years have a stay to learn about democracy, social skills and develop skills in subjects like sports, design, art, outdoor life, music, teatre, philosophy, psychology, sustainability and cooking.

As a folk high school we operate on the main aims life information, public information and democratic formation.
The values of the school are open mindedness, human respect, responsibility and community in a safe environment.

Classes are mandatory, but there are no tests or exams at a folk high school.
UHR is also an international school, where young people from around the world come to stay. At the present we have students from Japan, Greenland, Faroe Islands and South Korea.

Our students often spend either six months or a year between primary school and youth education, to work with subjects of interest and to prepare themselves for their further education.
All students live at the school in double or single rooms. All students help out with practical tasks, such as cleaning and dish washing.
All teachers live in houses around the high school, which gives a very special and safe environment. The teachers are present at the school from morning till late evening, teaching and spending social time with the students.

A normal day looks like this:

8:30 Breakfast
9:00 Morning assembly
9:45 Subjects (e.g. art, design, music, sports, philosophy)
12:30 Lunch
14:00 Subjects (e.g. art, design, music, sports, philosophy)
18:00 Dinner
22:00 Workshops are closed for the night.

Once a week the students, or the student council, meet to discuss problems or new ideas. The contact groups also meet once a week to catch up on the last week’s events and to have a nice social time together.

On weekends the students choose to stay at the school or to go home. Activities on weekends are planned on meetings every Friday afternoon.
