Beschreibung der Einrichtung
The Foundation "Droga Wolna" has been operating since December 2013 and associates people involved both professionally and privately in the development of children, youth and their families. The ethical dimension of our activities is determined by respect for human rights and all beings. We are united by a dream of a world that gives a chance for happiness to every human being. By happiness we understand the sense of harmony with the outside world and with ourselves, acquiring self-awareness and realizing our passions. We serve the child and family in creating their own program of life, in which dreams will be combined with responsibility, respect and kindness towards themselves and society.
The most important goals of the Foundation:
supporting the subjectivity of children and youth,
the realisation of the individual educational and cognitive needs of children and young people, and the development of their individual abilities,
development of artistic, civic, ethical and philosophical, cultural and social competences in children and youth,
supporting pro-social initiatives,
promotion of human rights, especially the rights of the child,
actions to raise democratic awareness,
disseminating and popularising scientific and philosophical knowledge about childhood,
developing social responsibility and integration, including intercultural integration,
supporting European integration and developing international contacts to protect democracy, freedoms and civil liberties,
promotion of democratic education, i.e. education based on conscious self-study in a community of equal rights and mutual respect,
promoting tolerance, intercultural dialogue, combating all forms of discrimination, including racial, religious, gender,
actions to respect all beings, promote ecological awareness and protect nature,
the promotion and organisation of volunteering.
We achieve our goals by organizing an educational environment in which relations between children and adults are not based on fear, manipulation or paternalism, but on equality, honesty and acceptance. The needs of children, the concept of unschooling and the idea of deep democracy are our guides. At school, we propose every day:
Instead of the duty to learn - the right to it. All students or their parents, mentors, employees, volunteers have the right to organize optional activities at school and to implement projects and other educational forms for children and young people. However, no one is obliged to participate in them.
Instead of the obligation to learn - responsibility. From a legal point of view, the school operates in the area of home education. This means that every student passes an exam once or twice a year on the curriculum content prepared by the Ministry of Education for a given stage of education.
Instead of teaching - accompanying in development. The role of a mentor is to actively respond to the needs of children and young people, help them to learn, support their independence and inspire, organize conditions conducive to the acquisition of new skills.
and shaping individual knowledge resources.
Instead of top-down decisions - co-determination. School life is regulated by the School Assembly, which is a voluntary assembly of the entire school community. The records of the Meeting are valid and equally valid for all members. Decisions are made by consensus, if there is no consensus, a vote is taken.
At present 40 children and adolescents from 5 to 18 years old participate in the project. On a daily basis they are supported in their development by a team of 6 people. The foundation also cooperates with several volunteers - a programmer, a person who works in a painting studio according to Arno Stern, a ceramist.
Most of the mentoring work with children on particular projects is individual or takes place in small groups.
Our regular proposals for meetings are: weekly trips to the forest, ceramic classes, swimming pool, trampoline park, rpg and larp games, as well as trips and excursions organized by children, among others.
Material facilities:
The Foundation leases a property in the city centre of Szczecin, at 32 Piotra Skargi Street. It consists of a small permaculture garden and the infrastructure necessary for children to actively relax outdoors. The building with a usable area of about 600m2 allows us to achieve our goals. We have among others: an art studio, a study room, a carpenter's shop combined with a workshop, a painting studio conducted according to Arno Stern's idea, a garden, an analogue photographic darkroom. It is a place adapted to receive guests - there are bathrooms in many rooms / studios, there is a large comfortable kitchen and dining room. The property is located near the representative park in Szczecin Jasne Błonia. We are surrounded by a comfortable network of public transport, which we use every day.
