Description of organisation

The foundation of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Beja (SCM beja) is part of the context of the creation of the Portuguese Misericórdias by Queen D. Leonor, during the first half of the century. XVI. SCMBeja is an IPSS based in Beja, with a diversity of social responses that ensure assistance to the basic needs of its target population (children, families at risk, the elderly). It has a focus on child support, a Children's Center that welcomes children from 4 months to 6 years. It integrates the gardening company, which was once founded as an insertion company, however, it is currently a service available to the community, within its area of operation. SCMBeja has a vast heritage, namely cultural, such as the building of the former Hospital Grande de Nª. Mr. da Piedade, classified as a National Monument, Chapel Nª. Mr. da Piedade and the Museological Nucleus. The Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Beja intends to accompany the European strategy of social cohesion, which is the touchstone of the development we want and which honors the long, historical and prestigious heritage of a century-old institution. Always keeping in mind a continuous work of service to others, we do not neglect the social innovation and renewal associated with the project that we embrace with the same spirit and solidity, dedicating ourselves to those who need it most, but offering quality and professionalism. The Citadel of Misericordia, the Medium and Long Term Continuing Care Unit, the Night Center, home care for the new elderly, the improvement of the Children's Center, the support of the Office of Monitoring and Social Assistance (GAAS) are priorities of this mandate. In the patrimonial sphere, the restoration of the Church of Nossa Senhora da Piedade, and the profitability of the space of the old Hospital and of the agricultural holdings, will also guide our action.
