opis organizacji

Global Institute for Lifelong Empowerment (GiLE) is a foundation that's based in Budapest. It was launched in 2019 at the World Science Forum with the primary aim to empower young people. Our focus is on skills development and we help young people make a smoother transition into the labour market.

The aims of our organisation are:

(1) To help young people make a smoother transition into the labour market.
We organise meaningful opportunities for young people to develop themselves outside of the classroom (i.e. non-formal and informal education). We address their personal skills gap by focusing on (1) character building, (2) career planning and (3) developing (soft) interpersonal skills.

(2) To promote and develop skills in science communication;
We develop young peoples' communication and presentation skills, so that they can better disseminate their research findings. There is a need for greater public engagement between academia and broader society. And the ability to explain volumes of complex information in a simple, brief and memorable way is an important transversal skill.

(3) To offer free publication opportunities in our open-access GiLE Journal;
Our GiLE Journal of Skills Development aims to publish scientific research papers on soft skills development. We aim to establish collaborative relationships with research institutions, universities, corporations and governmental agencies. Our organisation has an editorial board, editorial team, advisors, reviewers and proof-readers, that collectively possess a high-level of expertise and experience in academia and skills development.

(4) To help accelerate the advancement of higher education.
It's a fact, more needs to be done to accelerate the advancement of education. We try to inspire all stakeholders within the education system to do more on the ground to ensure that learning environments remain fit-for-purpose for the 21st century workplace.

Overview of our regular activities and programmes:

GiLE organises or hosts repetitive and once-off programmes, events and activities (hereafter referred to as “programmes”) that are aligned to the mission and goals of the organisation. Most of these are public programmes and they are available to GiLE’s primary target audience, the young people who are at the start of their career. Our organisation also offers non-public programmes as well. However, they are typically restricted to colleagues and members/volunteers of GiLE.

Public programmes:

GiLE hosts public Workshops and Training sessions for young people and future leaders in Budapest, at least once a month These sessions provide non-formal and informal education, and they typically focus on character building, career planning and developing interpersonal skills. Many of the training sessions are offered in person and in English, but we offer on-line sessions as well that is available to a broader audience, not only for young people living in or near Budapest.

GiLE collaborates with established training institutions and leading experts, trainers and coaches to offer high quality courses to a national and international audience. We collaborate with local communities, we host sessions at local community centres and with other non-profit organisations who do good for society.

The ‘Career Boost Summer and Winter Training Courses’ are intensive, one-day training programmes designed for young people to help them be more successful in life and in their career, and boost their overall employability. The sessions are held in the summer and winter holidays at universities so that students and young graduates can also join the sessions.

GiLE’s regular public programmes also include the hosting of webinars and the publication of blog posts, promotional articles and ‘audio-video abstracts’, podcast series.

The webinars that GiLE organises and hosts offer similar opportunities for an international audience. Such public events are targeting young people all over the world, and large numbers of secondary school teachers, language teachers and trainers also benefit from the courses, and in this way, we do good for society as a whole.

The editorial team of the GiLE Journal intends to organise scientific conferences at least once a year to help PhD students, post-doc and young researchers to disseminate their research finding, improve their speaking and writing skills, and to build their network.

Non-public programmes:

All the colleagues and members of GiLE have the opportunity to participate in internal training programmes. These are in-person and online workshops on learning how to use WordPress, how to design posts and pages on a website using Elementor, how to use search engine optimisation (SEO). Other skills development internal trainings include sessions on how to make and edit Lumen 5 videos, how to write and publish blog posts, or how to produce podcasts, among other things.
